Student Visitors

We love having school students coming to the Faculty of Science so that they can take a glimpse of the academic and research culture here. On September 29, 2017, the Department of Science and Technology Studies (STS) received a group of 15 teachers and 47 students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Jelapang, Ipoh, Perak, for their study trip. We hope these young generations were motivated by this experience and would explore the countless possibilities of Science.

Bowling Tournament

The Welfare & Social Committee of the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Science recently hosted a Bowling Tournament among its staffs and their family members. The light and easy event took place at the Setia Alam City Mall with 36 participants. Due to the success of the game, an idea is brewing on organizing an inter-department or inter-Dean’s Office bowling tournament.

Well, here’s a message from the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Science – ARE YOU GAME?

Bubur Asyura: Sharing is Caring

On October 13, 2017, the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Science prepared the famous Bubur Asyura (Asyura porridge) in conjunction with the recent Asyura Day which falls on the 10th day of Muharram (asyura means “10” in Arabic), the first month in the Islamic calendar. It is sunnah (following the practice of Prophet Muhammad PBUH) for Muslims to fast on the Asyura Day to commemorate the Day when prophet Moses and the Israelites were saved from Pharoah.

How about the origin of the Bubur Asyura? It is believed that Prophet Noah made this porridge after the Big Flood, mixing different ingredients given by his people, and sharing the porridge together after it was cooked. To this day, the tradition continues. Indeed, Bubur Asyura is unique because it is made with various mixtures of ingredients; in other words, you can put anything you have in the fridge to make the Bubur Asyura! But best of all, it is the act of sharing this porridge with family and friends which makes the Bubur Asyura truly special.

All smiles - Bubur Asyura in the making
